When Orville Wright took off in the Model A Flyer at Fort Myer, Virginia in September 1908, the world knew that flight was a reality. The aviation industry was born. Since then, the 1908 airplane has been lost to history. Until now.
On September 6, 2008, the Flyer will return to Fort Myer for the first time in 100 years. The gates of Fort Myer will open to celebrate the Centennial of Military Aviation, with the Flyer as the centerpiece and main attraction.

8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Centennial Open House with scheduled activities throughout Fort Myer
10:00 a.m. Opening Ceremony with renowned aviator keynote speaker, service flyovers and ceremonial military pageant at Summerall Field

Following the Centennial event, the Flyer will go on public display at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center as an interactive exhibit - the centerpiece of an education program with daily interactive demonstrations of its operation, design, and history. The Flyer it will find its permanent home at the National Museum of the United States Army, inspiring millions of future innovators for generations.
